The Primary Language Curriculum / Curaclam Teanga na Bunscoile

Exploring the Primary Language Curriculum

Dear School Principal

The Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) is continuing its professional development programme for the Primary Language Curriculum/Curaclam Teanga na Bunscoile. The new Primary Language Curriculum/Curaclam Teanga na Bunscoile for English and Irish has been developed by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA).

You have received a Circular from the Department of Education and Skills (61/2015). A follow up clarification of this circular can be viewed on the Department’s website at http://www.education.ie/en/Schools-Colleges/Information/Curriculum-and-Syllabus/Primary-/Clarifications-on-the-Implementation-of-the-Primary-Language-Curriculum.pdf.
The Department are sending this to schools in hard copy this week.

A 2-hour introductory workshop for principals took place last term. Whole school professional development will be provided for all schools by PDST in the 2016/2017 school year.
PDST is now offering full-day seminars for the school principal and one other member of staff. These will be delivered in local education centres throughout the country. The seminar will provide participants with opportunities to

• become familiar with the rationale for and structure of the Primary Language Curriculum/Curaclam Teanga na Bunscoile
• actively explore the curriculum using samples of children’s work and support materials
• prepare for an initial exploration of the curriculum with staff in school.

Places are strictly limited, so we will not be able to accommodate anyone who has not booked in advance.

Both participants will need to complete an online booking form to secure their place.

Seminars (delivered in English) will take place in Drumcondra Education Centre on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, 5th April at        9.15 – 3.15pm, delivered in English
